The following database of Study Abroad courses has been compiled from previously approved courses which Linguistics and Language Studies students have used toward their major or minor.
No course from this list requires further approval from the Linguistics Department at UC Santa Cruz in order to count as credit toward your major or minor. However, please remember that each course can only satisfy one elective requirement: either a Linguistics upper division elective or Language Studies context elective; the elective type is indicated for each course in this database.
Also bear in mind that majors can use only a maximum of three outside (or “substitution”) courses, and minors can use only a maximum of two outside (or “substitution”) courses. This limit includes substitution courses on campus, at another institution, or abroad.
If, in searching for courses to take while abroad, you find a course you feel is appropriate for this database, please email a syllabus or course description to the undergraduate coordinator at ling@ucsc.edu. Such a course must be upper division, worth at least 4.5 quarter units, and have a relevant subject matter pertaining to the proposed elective type.
